The ¡®Changing Landscapes: Towards a sustainable
economy in Asia¡¯ conference will be ¡°Green¡± aiming
to measure and reduce the environmental impacts of the
conference.
To make the conference as ¡°green¡± as possible,
- we will switch the energy used at the event to
renewable sources for the duration of the entire event; -
we will use organic ingredients as much as possible
for our meals, while minimizing the use of resource-intensive
foods, such as meats; - we encourage the participants
to use public transportation; - we will use recycled/recyclable
papers and vegetable-based inks in all conference-related
documents - we will perform efficient waste management
throughout the conference to reduce waste to landfill;
and - we will conduct carbon footprint for the event
and make it carbon-neutral.
The main sources of CO2 emissions from our conference
will be electricity used for the entire event and transportation
for participants¡¯ travel. The electricity usage can
easily be measured, but the emission by transportation
needs a more complicated process to be counted.
The CSR Network at Seoul National University, under
Eco-Frontier¡¯s support, volunteered for this task.
Each participant will be asked to fill in a questionnaire,
which will be collected to calculate the total CO2 emissions
by their travel. The CSR Network will calculate the
total emission by the entire event and prepare a report
on the carbon footprint which will be available at the
conference website. The volunteer staffs will also conduct
a campaign during breaks to inform participants about
this project and raise their awareness of the importance
of carbon emission issues.
